Coming from a culturally-rich family, Paulami was drawn towards the art of dance & music since childhood and took her first lessons in dance at the tender age of five. She received her initial training in oriental form of dance under the guidance of Guru Shri Valmiki Bannerjee, a noted choreographer and performer.
Later, Paulami took specialized training in ‘Odissi’, one of the most elegant forms of classical dance under the tutelage of late Guru Shri Srinath Raut, in Deba Prasad Das style. She further received advanced training from renowned Guru Shri Hare Krishna Behera.
Paulami has also taken training in Hindustani Classical Vocal & Rabindra Sangeet under the able guidance of her mother Smt. Swagata Guha, a noted vocalist & All India Radio graded artist.
Paulami has presented Odissi recitals on several forums at different parts in the country and beyond the country’s border and has each time mesmerised her audience with her stunning, soulful performance. She was also featured as an Odissi dancer in a television documentary film, ‘Dances of India’, that was directed by eminent dance exponents Padma Bhushan Raja and Radha Reddy. She has participated in various seminars and workshops and has presented innumerable lecture demonstrations on Odissi style under the auspices of IRCEN nationwide in Schools and Colleges. Paulami has imparted training in Odissi dance to young students at 'School of Performing & Fine Art'(SPFA), New Delhi for 22 years. She has also given remarkable performances, conducted lecture demonstrations & workshops on Odissi dance abroad at Nehru Wangchuk Cultural Centre, Thimphu, Bhutan(2014 & 2016), University of Colombo, University of Kelaniya, University of Moratuwa, University of Vocational Technology & University of Visual & Performing Arts, Sri Lanka(2016), Beijing Dance Academy, China (2016), B.P. Koirala Foundation, Kathmandu, Nepal (2017), The Nehru Centre, London, U.K. (2017 & 2019),Sri Palee Campus, Horana, University of Colombo, Sri Lanka(2022) to name a few.
Apart from her dance assignments, Paulami has served as Director, India International Rural Cultural Centre (IRCEN), a reputed socio-cultural Organisation & presently she is holding honorary position of Founder Member Secretary, Centre for Cultural Studies & Development (CCSD). She has also to her credit, degree of Sangeet Prabhakar in Hindustani Vocal from Prayag Sangeet Samiti, Allahabad. Paulami is one of the Members of the Central Selection Committee under Cultural Talent Search Scholarship Scheme of Centre for Cultural Resources and Training, Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India.
Post Graduate in Social Science, Paulami is also associated with a reputed English Journal “ARTLAND” as an Assistant Editor and she has interviewed High Commissioners and Ambassadors of 30 different countries till date on issues relating to art, culture and social life in their respective countries that has been published in the journal.
Her deep-rooted cultural values and association with dance over the last three decades have helped her to develop fine teaching skills to become an inspiration to young talents. Through her performances and her goal-oriented workshops and lectures, Paulami has persistently made efforts towards the cultural revival amongst the Indian youth. These constructive efforts and her dancing skills have been appreciated by press critics in different leading newspapers and magazines. A rare combination of a flawless dancer, choreographer, a classical singer, research scholar and a committed teacher, Paulami strongly believes instilling our values in the young minds is the only way to preserve our priceless traditional culture for shaping a better cultural future.
Paulami has served as Director (Projects) at India International Rural Cultural Centre (IRCEN), New Delhi a reputed socio-cultural Organisation from June 1997 till March 2021.
Associated with English Journal ARTLAND as Assistant Editor, she has interviewed High Commissioners and Ambassadors of more than 30 different countries till date on issues relating to art, culture and social life in their respective countries that has been published in the journal.
As Founder Member Secretary of Centre for Cultural Studies & Development (CCSD), a socio-cultural Organisation working on international level, Paulami has been engaged in planning, drafting and implementing activities of the Centre since its inception in 2010 till date. Apart from various value education programmes organized by the Centre for the youth in India & abroad under the leadership of Paulami Guha, She has conceptualized & successfully organized National Seminars on important topics namely ‘Tradition vs Popular Culture- Indian Society in Dilemma’ (March 2011), ‘Baul Tradition- An Eternal Journey Towards Mysticism’ (February 2020), ‘Enhancement of Mental & Physical Wellbeing through the Performing Arts’ (November 2022). Paulami is also actively engaged in conducting Research studies on the practice of rare forms of art with an aim to focus on the socio-economic condition of the art practitioners & work for the preservation of selective art forms for future generation.
